Self-Assessment
I was actually rather excited when I was given this project. In my spare time, one of my favorite things to do is write. I love the chance to be creative, and I can't deny that I have been disappointed by the lack of opportunities to stretch my creative wing in my English classes from Secondary School onwards! Whilst the project took a lot of time and effort on my part, I saw it as an enjoyable project as well as a final grade and couldn't help but think that it was a great way to finish the year and my study of English. Perhaps it helped that I managed to obtain an author to write about of whom I have felt particularly passionate about for years, but looking back I still think that I would have found enjoyment writing about several other authors including, and not limited to, Charles Dickens or Lewis Carroll. I completed most of my work in outside class time, be that in my free periods in school or outside of school. It didn't feel like a chore to me to work on my project, in fact it was an aspect of the day that I looked forward to due to the creativity it allowed me to showcase.
I had trouble with choosing which artifacts I wanted to include in my Multi-Genre Research Project as there was simply so much that I wanted to write about! I simply did not have the time to work with my ambitious ideas, and instead tried to pick artifacts which reflected my passion about the Author, and the subject of my research paper. I think that I chose artifacts that were relevant to my topic, but were also enjoyable for me to write/create as a student.
Creating the artifacts was definitely my favorite aspect of the project, but I also enjoyed writing my research paper as I felt I had accumulated a lot of information for the project that would come in useful. My weakest aspect was citing my sources, as the sources I chose, though containing legitimate information, are not actually sponsored by the Author - but those databases were incredibly useful in finding certain quotations that I wanted or information that may have slipped my mind from the books. Because the works of JK Rowling are in the form of an extensive series, it made sense to use a database to check on facts instead of scouring through the pages in search for a piece of information.
I hope that when people look at my website, they gain a sense of insight into the Harry Potter series that they hadn't known before, that they learn more about JK Rowling's journey upon writing these novels, and that my passion as a reader is translated in my writings.
Looking at the rubric, I think that I fulfilled many of its requirements. The only issue that I think I have is that I didn't use enough sources, or wasn't able to cite them correctly. However, my essay was the correct length and held valid information and I put in a lot of effort to create some great artifacts that I feel proud of.
